Yellow PLA-Based Trays for Chilled Meat; Food-Grade, Microwave- and Freezer-Safe Colored CPET Trays; and Gray PP Trays for Skin Packaging

In the modern field of fresh food packaging, a variety of high-performance, food-grade plastic trays are frequently employed to address diverse storage and heating requirements. Among these, yellow PLA-based trays for chilled meat, food-grade colored CPET trays (suitable for both microwaving and freezing), and gray PP trays are each tailored to specific scenarios, offering a combination of safety, functionality, and environmental value.

Yellow PLA-based trays are manufactured using Polylactic Acid (PLA) as the primary raw material. Derived from renewable resources such as corn starch, PLA is classified as a bio-based, biodegradable material. Its distinctive yellow hue not only enhances product visibility but also serves to mitigate, to some extent, the adverse effects of light exposure on the color of chilled meat. Compliant with relevant standards, PLA trays are suitable for refrigerated environments ranging from 0°C to 4°C and are widely utilized for the display of chilled meat in supermarkets. However, a key caveat applies: PLA exhibits relatively poor heat resistance (typically limited to temperatures below 50°C); consequently, it is neither suitable for microwave heating nor for freezing applications, and is primarily positioned as a packaging solution for short-term refrigerated display.

Colored CPET (Crystalline Polyethylene Terephthalate) trays, conversely, are specifically engineered to accommodate a full temperature spectrum—spanning both freezing and microwaving conditions. These trays maintain stable performance across a temperature range of -40°C to +220°C, making them the ideal vessel for frozen ready meals and instant bento boxes. By incorporating food-grade color masterbatches, these trays can be produced in a variety of colors—including black, white, gray, and blue—thereby meeting the diverse branding and differentiation needs of manufacturers. CPET boasts exceptional rigidity, oil resistance, and microwave transparency; it remains free of deformation and does not leach harmful substances during heating. Furthermore, its surface is highly amenable to heat-sealing with aluminum foil or composite films, thereby ensuring a secure seal and extending product shelf life.

Gray PP (Polypropylene) trays are widely adopted due to their cost-effectiveness and robust overall performance characteristics. With a temperature tolerance ranging from -30°C to 120°C, they are suitable for refrigeration, freezing, and short-duration microwave heating (provided the product bears a specific "microwave-safe" label). The gray aesthetic imparts a modern, industrial look while offering a degree of opacity; this makes them a versatile choice suitable for packaging a broad spectrum of product categories, including meat, seafood, and baked goods. PP material is recyclable, possesses strong chemical stability, and—being lower in cost than CPET—stands as the mainstream choice for the mid-range market.

Each of the three materials has its own distinct focus: PLA prioritizes environmental sustainability and refrigerated display; CPET excels in integrated freeze-to-microwave applications; while PP strikes a balance between performance and cost. Enterprises should scientifically select the appropriate tray material based on their specific product processing requirements, distribution channel demands, and sustainability objectives, thereby ensuring both food safety and a positive consumer experience.
