PA/PE Composite Film for Food Packaging (Polyamide Laminated with Barrier PE)
PA/PE composite film (a laminate of polyamide and polyethylene) has become a core material in modern food packaging due to its outstanding physical properties and barrier characteristics. This material ingeniously combines the high strength, superior oxygen barrier capabilities, and puncture resistance of PA (nylon) with the excellent moisture resistance, flexibility, and heat-sealing performance of PE (polyethylene), making it perfectly suited for various high-end packaging processes.
In the realm of food blister packaging, PA/PE composite film demonstrates excellent processing adaptability. Through thermoforming, the film can be efficiently molded into trays and containers of complex shapes, finding wide application in the packaging of fresh meat, bone-in seafood, braised deli foods, and ready-to-cook items such as frozen dumplings. Its exceptional puncture resistance effectively prevents bone-in or spiny foods from piercing the package, thereby significantly reducing the risk of air leakage and extending product shelf life by 1 to 6 months.
PA/PE composite film also excels as the forming (bottom) web for fully automatic continuous thermoforming vacuum packaging machines. During the forming process, the film stretches uniformly under vacuum and heat to create deep-cavity containers without breaking or delaminating. The choice of the inner PE layer is tailored to specific sterilization processes: for low-temperature pasteurization (below 100°C) or frozen storage (-18°C), standard PE provides excellent low-temperature toughness and seal integrity (even in the presence of contaminants); conversely, for high-temperature, high-pressure retort sterilization (121°C), heat-resistant retort-grade PE or CPP is used to ensure the package does not rupture or leach harmful substances at high temperatures.
Overall, PA/PE composite film not only offers high transparency—perfectly showcasing the food's appearance—but also effectively blocks oxygen and moisture, preventing oxidation, spoilage, and moisture loss. Whether used for vacuum skin packaging of chilled fresh meat or as a high-temperature retortable base film for ready-to-cook meals, it provides comprehensive assurance for food safety and long-lasting freshness.
