Rigid PETG Sheets for Thermoforming

Novel Eco-friendly, Recyclable PET Film and Aluminized Film

Rigid PETG sheets designed for thermoforming are heat-sealable and represent a high-performance, eco-friendly thermoplastic material widely utilized in fields such as food packaging, medical devices, display stands, and industrial components. PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol-modified) is produced by modifying traditional PET through the introduction of CHDM comonomers, thereby combining excellent transparency, toughness, and processing characteristics. It possesses a moderate glass transition temperature, allowing it to be easily heated, softened, and rapidly formed using standard thermoforming equipment; furthermore, it exhibits excellent dimensional stability upon cooling and is resistant to warping. A particularly notable feature is that certain specialized grades of PETG sheets offer superior heat-sealing capabilities, enabling them to form a seal—either with themselves or with other compatible materials—simply through the application of heat, without the need for adhesives. This makes them ideal for automated packaging applications such as blister packs and tray sealing.

Concurrently, the new generation of eco-friendly, recyclable transparent PET rigid sheets for blister packaging is manufactured using 100% food-grade rPET (recycled PET) or virgin PET as raw materials. These sheets offer glass-like clarity, high rigidity, and scratch resistance, alongside excellent chemical resistance and barrier properties. This material not only facilitates multiple cycles of recycling and reuse—thereby reducing its carbon footprint—but also supports degradation under industrial composting conditions (depending on the specific formulation), aligning perfectly with global sustainable development trends. Although both materials belong to the polyester family, PETG places a greater emphasis on high impact resistance and ease of heat-sealing, making it suitable for complex structural components; conversely, the eco-friendly PET rigid sheet prioritizes high rigidity, high transparency, and circular economy attributes, and is predominantly used for disposable or short-term blister packaging applications. In practical material selection, users can flexibly combine and utilize these options based on specific product functional requirements, cost budgets, and environmental certification criteria.
